Just in case you didn’t notice that announcement that they were giving all of us Kickstarter Backers a free eBook (over 150 pages!!), do check it out, even if you just want to view it on your phone or tablet! I got my copy and it is absolutely stunning. Plus it gives an historical look at some of the art as well (preliminary sketches). The book is so good that I am considering printing it and having it bound at either Staples (spiral bound) or at Grimm Book Bindery (hard cover bound).
If you are a Kickstarter Backer, you can get your copy for free here:
=> Free Artbook Gift
Here are a couple examples from the book:

A similar progression for the artwork is two pages later:

And finally, an example of three different versions of artwork, then deciding on which to use as the final:

And (for the curious), if you missed the official announcement … here it is:

Interest in Rogue Angels is world wide! It’s been only about 8 days since I created this website to support a game that I thought was so fantastic that it needed it’s own website! And in just 8 days people from 29 different countries have dropped by to visit and find out more about Rogue Angels! [update: 2 days later 2 more countries had visitors here, so now at 31] [update 1 day before the end of Kickstarter 35 countries] [update Oct 4 => 40 countries now]
Here are the countries:

I looked at how the Kickstarter campaign is doing and saw that we just met (and exceeded) another Stretch Goal!
Bravo! We have four more added companions!
Here is what has just been added to the game:

And (I hear some of you asking) just what is a companion?
Well, it is not one of the 16 hero characters. Instead, a companion JOINS with you and your team! Here is how the rulebook refers to “companion”:

Yeah, but, just what IS a companion (you may still be asking:)???
There will be a deck of companion cards included in the game. Now and then as you play through the campaign you will be told that a companion has joined your team. At that point you do not get to choose which companion (card) to add to your team. Instead, you are told what companion is joining your team and you find their card in the deck of companion cards and add it to your Ship Box!
Yeah, but can we see an example of what a companion actually IS???
OK … here is one example (prototype) companion card:

I hope you are enjoying learning about Rogue Angels with me!

But then (I hear some of you asking… boy, lots of questions right now) what are the next couple Stretch Goals?

Next up in our 1 minute video clip series is the Board Game Officer doing an unboxing of the prototype! He did several Rogue Angel videos, so you may see more 1 minute clips of him soon! Meanwhile, here is his first clip:

Lisa (one of the co-writers of Rogue Angels) has just provided an interesting article:
=> Lore #1 – The Changelings
Changelings are interesting to me because of their ability to change their shapes. I would call them shapeshifters. Lisa’s article informs us that they like the term skinshifting instead :) Here is a short portion of her article:
Their defining biological characteristic is their ability to alter their physical appearance to mimic those of other life forms.
Transition is achieved via ingestion of a target species DNA, and a changeling can imprint a maximum of 4 DNA patterns at any one time. They can’t mimic anything that is not dictated genetically, so it’s not possible for a changeling to pass themselves off as a cyborg or a templar. They also can’t mimic species much larger than themselves, so leviathans and giants are impossible to copy, along with larger individuals from other species. The shape-shift – referred to as skinshifting – is an energy intensive process that is exhausting for the changeling. It is difficult to manage two changes within a short space of time, and impossible to do more than two without stimulants. Once a change is achieved it requires no further energy to maintain the new form. Changelings have a high metabolism to fuel their skinshifting, and changelings actively involved in a lot of shifts consume a lot of food relative to their bodyweight.

Martin (a co-designer of the game) has just posted an interesting article looking at Qorox including the character board and unique cards!
=> Qorox (overview)

Libby and Julian at Boxed Meeples takes a second look at Rogue Angels. They liked how it focused on the characters… sort of a character legacy. Each character develops relationships with others which can have immediate effects but also long lasting effects. After playing other similar games since their first look, they now can see the beauty of some of the mechanics that Emil Larson has come up with… that work so neatly, so elegantly, It’s all kind of right there in front of you, including the enemies and how they work nicely with moves alternating between yellow and red enemies. It is such an achievement how Emil was able to create such a huge game that remains cohesive and playable.
This time their games had more players and got more exciting. The timer track really keeps you on your toes. And how the game is set up changes often, usually several times while playing on one map. This gives needed breaks as you play which makes game play much better but also makes it much easier to find a quitting point if you’d like to stop playing for the day.
