Fun Interact “Hacking” thick acrylic tokens

An integral part of Rogue Angels is hacking a terminal or interacting with locked doors to break into the room. This is done using interact tokens in a draw bag. Often you will encounter a protected computer terminal or locked door. You need to interact with them (ie, “hack” them) by randomly drawing an interact token from a draw bag. You need three of the same color to complete your “hack”. There are three colors (purple, blue and red) plus white (which is wild). The final game will have these custom tokens to shake in the bag:

Unfortunately my prototype copy did not have these cool interact tokens. So I got some thick acrylic padlock tokens from The Game Crafter and they have been totally enjoyable:

They make a nice clanking sound when I shake them in the draw bag!

Available for about 18 cents each from The Game Crafter (you need 8 blue, 8 purple, 8 red and 4 white):

Official Update (37 / 16)

=> Official Update Kickstarter #37
=> Gamefound Update #16

Highlights:

[It was sad to hear that Emil and his family were sick for the first three weeks of January]

All maps, cards and dossiers are ready for manufacturing. Estimated delivery date is May 2025.

Przemek Kozlowski has finished the last maps for Rogue Angels. While I am very happy about that and excited to move forward, it also made me a bit sad that our four years of cooperation has come to an end.

Tweaked Action Cards

Emil has been quite busy! He gave me a peak at the final (almost?) action cards and I am comparing them, one by one, to see which ones he tweaked (to balance the game even more). I won’t mention the special “locked” cards that each hero has, so this should not be spoilers for you unless you don’t want to know about the cards until you get the game.

Actually, if you haven’t played the game yet, you can ignore this article :) HOWEVER … if you have a prototype, PDFs of the changed cards are at the end of this article.

Using thin Lego Plates for Walls

I can’t take credit for the idea (I remember reading about it somewhere a few months ago) but I am trying it out now!

I bought a bag of 100 thin red Lego®* Plates and will be placing them on top of the “walls” on the maps. This will add a bit of realism to the maps where the walls actually come up off the map (via the Lego® plates). Here is what the first mission’s first map looks like as I set it up:

This makes the walls OBVIOUS plus more realistic since they are actually raised up off the printed page! You may already have bags of Lego® pieces that you can use for this (they do not have to be red you know). However, if you need to purchase them, this is the source that I used:

=> The Lego Ladies (100 red plates)

They also have them available in packs of 100 white or 100 black.

Note from the Lego website: If the LEGO trademark is used at all, it should always be used as an adjective, not as a noun. For example, say “MODELS BUILT OF LEGO BRICKS”. Never say “MODELS BUILT OF LEGOs” [and]… the LEGO trademark should always appear with a ® symbol each time it is used.

  4. December was productive – Quick Summary: Chapters 1-5 were finalized and Chapter 6 is almost done. There are more new maps. The manufacturer is creating the plastic molds.

  5. Przemek Kozlowski delivered a couple new maps and environments.

What Games Did I Play In 2024?

Here are the top 25 (there are more that I played only 3 times or less not shown, plus a couple other slight adjustments):

Nice to see Rogue Angels up in the top three games of the year for me!

Note: RUMIS is the game played 8 times that is hard to tell what it is. The game is quite fun as each player tries to add their cubes or other 3D shapes onto the board, but only building to a certain level / height.

Only 270 copies left

Yesterday Emil commented in a forum that there were only 300+ copies of the game left and that he expected them to sell out over the holidays.

So……… if you are interested in this game, you should go pledge for it now before they are sold out.

=> Gamefound Rogue Angels Pledge Manager

Update December 31, 2024: About 270 copies are available before it is sold out.

Official Update (35 / 14)

=> Kickstarter Update #35
=> Gamefound Update #14 (should be the same)

16 hero miniatures

Highlights:

Summary: Very productive month. New maps. Moving forward on digital production. Moving forward towards manufacturing.

  1. Most illustrations have already been completed, but world building maps are still being created by Przemek Kozlowski

    Ice world and Reaver platforms

    To ease the pressure on Przemek, NextMars is now on board attempting to create maps with a similar style to Przemek:

    Strange world and Military installation

  2. To help with writing the story [there is a LOT of story, and it is quite interesting so far in the prototype – Len] Emil is learning LaTeX and Python … and now he can make significant changes and additions to the story in the campaign books keeping everything in sync!

    This allowed Emil to get the first three chapters into a ready to review form. They are available online here (530 pages) … WARNING: Huge Spoilers if you look at them:
    => Rogue Angels Dropbox / Rogue Angels Dropbox rules/campaign books folder
    Example pages:

    If you would like to read through the story for Emil (ie, proofreading), please get in touch with him.
    NOTE: the first 530 pages (Chapters 1-3) are now also available via the Rogue Angels mod on Tabletop Simulator
    The next two chapters (4-5) should be ready in about a week. A select few will get access to Chapter 6 for a read through :)

Overview, Setup, Strategy and Playthrough Mission C2

I tried to make these videos kind of a tutorial on how to play Rogue Angels and win without firing a shot! :)

Overview and Setup:

Strategy (note that there are TWO ways to succeed in this mission and this strategy is only applicable to success by being sneaky:) :

Playthrough (note that if you play aggressively to destroy the enemies, your game play will be nothing like this, so this won’t be a spoiler for you at all:)

When your mission ends, sometimes it will be extended or continued. Sometimes on that same map, other times on a different map. Don’t reset or change anything unless told otherwise. Here is how the mission update works using mission C2 into update 1:

Next I played through the UPDATE 1A mission for C2:
