Official Update 51/30

=> Kickstarter Update #51
=> GameFound Update #30 (should be the same)

Highlights:

Summary: All campaign books alighted and the first book was submitted for manufacturing.

The first book (Chapter One) is completed, checked and corrected and has been sent to the manufacturer for their review. If it meets their expectations, the rest of the books will be sent to them!

With the help of a good friend, Emil has built the Rogue Angels campaign story in Excel (computer spreadsheets), fed it into Python scripts (more computer programming), and finally compiled it in LaTeX (a computer typesetting program).

This was a long, tiring and challenging process with huge to-do lists!

  • Over One Thousand corrections provided by gamers who backed this game!
  • Trial and error on the layout including coding bits, automated links and page references.
  • Tons of compiling and read-throughs [can we actually weigh a read-through?:)]
  • Many play tests to back up all the decisions made along the way.

March 2026 Accomplishments:

  • All One Thousand Four Hundred Fifty Eight pages (1,458) have the alignment finished and checked including 527 different map layouts with unique conditions and temporary rules)
  • Over 300 instances of character progression  and card upgrades finished and checked
  • Over 530 references to character relationships and lasting consequences checked
  • Over 150 explicit choices throughout the campaign have been checked (and this does not count the mission consequences)
  • Over 1,035 help images properly inserted and checked (small icons to prompt players for different actions)
  • Over 2,635 stoplines verified (to control the flow of the campaign from one paragraph to another, or to a new page)

Once this was completed (and checked, corrected and verified), it then had to be adjusted to be ready for the manufacturer to print! This meant more new script pieces to expand the PDF to include bleed, keep alignment, add the crop marks, etc. This had to be done in a way that it could revert back to a version without the bleeds (to export into Tabletop Simulator).

And then Emil did a final run-through (read-through) of Chapter 1 to check the layout, narration placement, stop lines, highlighted text, action and choice prompts, dialogue images and overlays, maps, etc … TEN TIMES!

And then (finally) Chapter One was made into a ready to print PDF that was 521 mb in size and sent to the manufacturer!

This is a MAJOR MILESTONE for several reasons:

  • It is “out there” and decisions have all been made!
  • The last six books have also been aligned, so they can follow along soon (after getting the OK from the manufacturer)
    • Emil is still making small dialogue corrections and incorporating suggestions by Lisa in these other six books
  • It feels AMAZING!  This is how it should look and play. This is the product you should experience! And now it has that final form!

The manufacturer is tweaking the dice a tiny bit based on Emil’s feedback… to create a better finish! And now Emil is [patiently] awaiting their feedback on the spiral bound campaign book.

And now … the latest revision of the full game timeline:

A few notes for the overview

  • (*) Pre-production done. These will enter production alongside the rest.
  • (**) Pre-production underway at manufacturer.
  • (***) Awaiting pre-production at manufacturer.

Emil gave us a sideline news blip:

Some of you may have heard that I have agreed to do a guest design collaboration with Tyson on his really cool sci-fi-fantasy game Phantom Epoch (second print and expansion). You can check out the update here.

PLUS … you really SHOULD watch this short YouTube blurb about it (queued to the right spot):

And Emil assures us that he will be doing that special mission for Phantom Epoch only AFTER he has finished all his duties on Rogue Angels!

All the playtests of Rogue Angels have been completed, but you still can try out the game on Tabletop Simulator.

And, for those who can speak Norwegian:

And here is the closing for this update from Emil:

Thanks again for taking time to read and follow my progress towards the stars of this epic sci-fi adventure. And thanks to your support, this will become a journey worth remembering!

Best regards Emil
