2500 Different Hero Teams

Rogue Angels is a wonderful game for Solo play!

True! I know from my own experience playing on my own. It is intriguing as well as interesting. It is strategic and tactical yet luck plays it’s own hand in the game as well.

It would have been great if it only came with just four heroes to choose from. But Emil (the main designer) made it extremely extravagant. He elegantly expanded the game to provide SIXTEEN well balanced heroes to choose from!

If you play the game solo, you need to control two heroes. This was not a problem at all in my experience since the game plays so smoothly.

But look at the variety available to a solo player (as well as to a two player game). Look at the number of combination of two heroes that you can make:

If you start with Adryel, you have fifteen different combinations as you can match him up with each of the remaining 15 heroes.

Then you could look at all the teams to add with Antathys. Of course, the Adryel and Antathys combination has already been counted … but there are another fourteen different combinations teaming him up with the other 14 heroes.

Then continue matching up teams of two heroes with Bassilus on through the last one with Vera and Xalia. All in all, you have 120 different teams for a solo or two player game!

Now let’s look at how there are literally hundreds (over a thousand?) of different team combinations for a THREE PLAYER game:

There are 105 different teams of 3 heroes that include Adryel. Yes, over 100 teams already, and that is just look at teams that include Adryel.

This would take quite a while to work out all by hand, so let’s be math geeks and use a formula to find the answers :) Someone on Quora summed up the formula / equation that is applicable to our search to find how many different and unique teams of heroes can start a Rogue Angles campaign:

To calculate the number of combinations, you can use the formula
C(n, k) = n! / (k! * (n – k)!)
where n is the total number of items [heroes] and k is the number of items to choose [team size]

2 Players (and solo)

To find how many different unique teams of 2 heroes we can start with, we use this formula:

16! / (2! * (16 – 2)!)

Then we can use this online calculator that can calculate factorial (ie, that exclamation point means “factorial”)

=> DESMOS Scientific Calculator (online)

120 different unique starting hero teams for a 2 player (or solo) game!

3 Players

Next … let’s calculate how many starting teams for a 3 player game:

16! / (3! * (16 – 3)!)

560 different unique starting hero teams for a 3 player game!

4 Players

Finally … let’s calculate how many starting teams for a 4 players game:

16! / (4! * (16 – 4)!)

1,820 different unique starting hero teams for a 4 player game!

Total Unique Teams

So, that means there are 2,500 different teams to start a game of Rogue Angels (1-4 players)
