Official Update (40 / 19)

=> Kickstarter Update #40
=> GameFound Update #19 (should be the same as Kickstarter)

Story almost done, more illustrations, production proofs, and tariffs – Late Pledge is still available on Gamefound for those just discovering this game!

Highlights:

  1. April was a productive month. The story will be done in a few weeks (will be over 1,100 pages). More illustrations are in the works. Production proofs were received. Tariffs addressed.

  1. What’s an update without new artwork to show off? :D
NextMars is working on the next 10 illustrations for the campaign books. Some examples (but these are NOT finished yet)

  2. It has been very difficult writing the last few missions of chapter 6. Crossing the 1,100th page means a lot of memories and camaraderie have been created by players and companions.
There already are over 55,800 cells that are the building blocks for the main campaign.

With so many choices and consequences, it must be a meaningful farewell – both for those who may fall in the last moments, and for those who get through to the end.

And while chapter 6 is more limited in geography and missions – it is by no means less complex or varied than other parts of the story. It will be almost impossible to get the same ending twice :) As an example, this is just PART of the flowchart for chapter 6 (the blue cells indicate multiple outcomes):

  3. Emil received all 16 miniature models as a test run using molds and proper plastic as will be used for the final manufacturing. The base has been slightly redesigned. Here is an example with his 30 year old Lego character to provide a reference for size:

The rotating bases for the enemy standees are progressing.  The new version is on the right side:

  4. Here is an overview of the production Schedule / Timeline:

Notes for this overview of the schedule:

    • Map Book: It was finished … but then Emil wanted to add two more new maps :)
    • Campaign Book: First five (of six) is finished. Emil is working on the final two missions in book six aiming for the epic finale and to have it all come together for the heroes, their companions, factions, and the antagonists of the story :)
    • Punchboard: Basically finished, but holding off to be sure a new square isn’t needed for the last mission :)
    • (*) means pre-production is done and will enter production alongside the rest

  5. The tariff situation concerns about 40% of Rogue Angels backers who will receive their game in the United States. A short summary as of this point in time:

    1. The tariff on board games made in China coming to the USA is 145%
    2. The price Emil will pay to import this game into the USA will be 145% of the unit cost
    3. Things may change with tariffs, so this is merely a tentative plan should tariffs remain in place.
    4. Emil is in dialog with the manufacturer in China. There needs to be a clear distinction between services and physical manufacturing.
    5. Split invoices on production startup costs based on region shipped to.
    6. Emil is doing what he can (within reason) to lower the unit cost for copies going to the USA since that is what the tariffs are calculated from (unlike VAT which is charged based on the sales+shipping price).
    7. Tariffs are based on country of origin (not how they are transported) so shipping through Canada is not a solution.
    8. Assembling the “parts” in another country (other than China) might not be enough to change the “country of origin” but it will significantly change the supply chain (risky)
    9. If you have a friend in Canada, you can use their address and pick it up from them. Yes, this is not a solution for Mass shipping.
    10. Backers in countries other than the USA will not pay for the tax on games going to the USA, just like USA backers are not paying for EU VAT etc.
    11. Emil will likely absorb some of the increased tariff cost, but not the full 145%.
    12. A tariff is not added “on top of” the pledge level like VAT, but is added to the manufacturing cost of the game.
    13. Emil’s company is located in Denmark, so he is not directly affected by or pushing for USA laws or policies. QUOTE: “Just like when I was an officer in the Danish Army, my goal is to do a fantastic job and soldier through to the finishing line :)
    14. Emil will do a complete and transparent breakdown of the costs when we get closer to a shipping date and can see how it all turns out.

Emil was part of the Livestream about tariffs by The Co-op Guild:
