Comparing Characters (Choose Your Hero)

NOTE: All my information is based on the prototype with 16 characters that Emil so kindly sent to me… so things are not final and could change in the final game.

Each of the 16 characters available for you to play in Rogue Angels is unique. We may wish to call these 16 characters by their other name … HEROES (because we WILL meet up with other characters as we play the game).

The final game will come with 16 dossier envelopes, one for each Hero. A quick overview of the hero is on the front of the dossier.

If you play strictly by the rules, each player is given 3 random dossier envelopes. They will choose one and return the other two (unopened) to the game box.

However, since you will be playing as this hero for hours and hours on dozens of missions, I suggest implementing this house rule:

House Rule: Look through all the dossiers, one by one (including everything inside each envelope), and keep the one that you would like to have as your hero!

If you are strictly following the rules, you should skip the rest of this article.

If you are like me, and want to choose your hero out of the 16 available, then read on to see what some of the unique features are for each hero.

Rather than one LONG article, I will compare the heroes in several short articles looking at each of the areas where a Hero can be unique!

Inside the dossier you will find:

  1. Double sided character sheet. Use the Introductory side for your first scenario. Flip it over and use the reverse side for all future games (this side includes the four quadrant personality diagram). The full side includes these sections that are unique to each hero:
    1. Focus (yellow circles)
=> Focus (Talya & Gia are best)
    2. Shields (blue shields)
=> Shields (Qorox & Antathys are best / also consider Memnon)
    3. Personality quadrants diagram (on the left side)
      1. At times during the game you will be instructed to color in the inner most blank bar in one of the quadrants. Here are the four quadrants:
      2. NOTE: some heroes begin with a bar in one or two quadrants prefilled in. And there is one hero (Xalia) with no bars prefilled!
    4. Scars (white circles)
      1. At times during the game you may be required to color in one of your scars. Your hero dies if all the scars get colored in. However, getting hit beyond your shields only gives you a damage card (not a scar). Even getting four damage cards does not give you a scar, but renders you unconscious. Scars perhaps indicate the longevity of a hero during the campaign (they will stick with you for a long time)
=> Scars (Antathys and Melithys are best / also consider Qorox)
    5. Unique abilities (stated in the center)
  2. A legacy folder
    1. Twelve pages of backstory, background and helpful hints to use while playing this hero (there is only one page per hero in the prototype).
      => Hero Background articles
  3. A sticker sheet
    1. At times during the game you will be instructed to place a sticker on one of your Action cards
  4. A character relationship tracking page
    1. Track how six characters in the game like or dislike you as well as a variety of other things to track at the bottom of the page. Some heroes start with certain characters liking or disliking them already!
  5. Two sets of Action cards
    • A set of 7 Action cards to use as you play the game (5 are unique to this hero)
    • A set of 4 Action cards that are “locked” until later in the game
  6. Each hero also includes one miniature and one cardboard standee to insert into a stand. You decide which to use during game play.

As I write the set of articles, I will include links to each article in the list above.
